Albany.
Letting the type lead
Albany’s identity is rooted in history, but always evolving. The concept for the mark focuses on that sense of growth, drawing from the city’s Dutch heritage and its association with tulips to create a subtle blooming expression.
The logo is built entirely as a custom wordmark, allowing the typography to carry the brand without relying on additional symbols. Sculptural, floral-inspired letterforms introduce elegance and personality while maintaining structure and readability.
Balancing expression with restraint was key. The forms needed to feel refined without becoming overly decorative or dated. Careful attention to how the letters connect creates a natural flow, while a subtle shift in color at the end highlights “NY,” reinforcing a clear sense of place.
Designed for tourism, events, and city-wide use, the result is a mark that feels rooted, expressive, and quietly confident.
