South Haven.

Finding calm in the chaos

The concept for South Haven centers on the lighthouse as a symbol of guidance. It represents that moment of finding calm after the chaos, which aligns naturally with arriving along the shores of Lake Michigan.

The South Pierhead Light became the anchor of the mark, chosen for both its recognition and its meaning. It grounds the identity in place while reinforcing the idea of direction and return.

Typography was designed to feel sturdy and worn in, with a subtle coastal texture shaped by wind and water. The challenge was balancing that character without slipping into familiar beach clichés or overworking the design. Careful control of texture and proportion keeps the mark clean and readable while still carrying a sense of age and authenticity.

The lighthouse and type come together as a unified mark that feels steady, familiar, and rooted in its environment. Built for tourism, signage, and local use, the result is a logo that feels less like a brand and more like a place you can find your way back to.
